Umlungu "Carried Away"

Out Now on Whoop Records

Following on from the hugely popular 'You Can Have Him' by Guy Gerber, Whoop! return from overseas in South Africa, having enlisted the services of Umlungu for the next release, which comes in the form of 'Carried Away' featuring a remix from Mike Monday, amongst others.

Mike Monday dishes up his usual blend of funky house and warm grooves on the a-side, keeping things uplifting with a nice happy melody working in tandem with the emotive vocal. Mike as always makes the track his own, but whilst the production is as always slick, it's pretty much normal Mike Monday fare which will no doubt be marmite with some people - you'll either love it or hate it.

South Africa's DJ Nelson is responsible for the mixes on the b-side and adds deep atmospheric elements to the techy tribal grooves that he lays down. Using the vocals he controls the direction of the groove with precision execution, funky progressive riffs pushing things forward in fine fashion. The dub mix builds on this with a slightly tougher outlook that rocks and rolls all the same. Interesting and well worth a listen, as DJ Nelson more than gives Mike Monday a run for his money this time around.

Expect to see forthcoming material from Asle and quite possibly yet more israeli adventures with Guy Gerber in the coming months. From the reception that the last few releases have had, it seems people like to Whoop! up this kind of stuff quite a lot.
