Tarrentella Feat Saffron "Columbia (Mike Monday Mixes)"

Out Now on Whoop Records

Back at the end of 2003, Tarrentella teamed up with Republica's Saffron to deliver 'Columbia', a track that fused her punky angst fuelled voice with Tarrentella's superb electronic sounds and programming to create something new and exciting that took many by surprise, slowly finding it's niche with many of the usual suspects, but never quite achieving what it was capable of. Now Mike Monday steps up with his own versions of this unique collaboration.

Mike's 'Vocal Mix' sees him strip the track down to it's bare groove before adding his own interesting and funky distorted bassline over the top. It's an element that serves the mix well as by the time the guitar hooks are thrown back in amongst the bleeps and stabs that form the driving force of this dirty little rework, what we have is another twisted house mix from a man who's been staking his claim as the king of the sound recently.

The 'Instrumental' doesn't diversify too much off the beaten path, but Mike makes sure it packs enough wallop to send the floor reeling with the addition of some extra sounds that make the track dirtier still, whilst still retaining the funky electro vibe of the vocal interpretation.

Mike Monday reworks 'Columbia' into a dirty house bomb, providing two superb remixes which are a decent addition to the ones on the original 12". Another quality release from the scene's longest standing indie label.
