Guy Gerber "Air Guitar / Lost DJ (Remix)"

Out Now on Whoop Records

Guy Gerber's initial foray into the world of Whoop! alongside Sahar Z has been a tough cookie to top, thanks in part to it's memorable hook courtesy of those Bristolians Portishead. That track was of course 'Kennys Back', and since then Guy has gone on to produce several singles for Whoop!, though none have quite emulated the addictive nature of that inaugural track. However, it looks as though this latest single may just change that..

'Air Guitar' may be Guy Gerber's own homage to that famous Led Zeppelin classic (you know the one), or it may just be his way of throwing two fingers up at the usual fare that is being put at at the moment. Who knows? Who cares? The fact of the matter is that this guitar inspired house track is full of funk, with layer upon layer of beats pushing that infectious guitar riff to the bridge and back again. Throw in the aforementioned Zeppelin part, in the form of a huge electronic guitar solo during the break, and you have one rather fun, rather innovative, and rather addictive tracks of the year.

And yes, it may sound a bit like Daft Punk, but so did the 'Lost DJ'. Whether Guy is a fan of them or not is not relevant, what is though is that this remix of 'Lost DJ' kicks the original to the ground courtesy of a bigger rolling b-line, cut up stab action and that infectious hook that made the original oh so good. Whilst some of the subtle elements of the original are lost, this track gets a whole new dimension of appeal added to it. A good trade up in my eyes.

You may like or loathe Guy's production work, but you cannot argue that within the more house inspired section of the section that his track record is second to none, and this latest single is testament to that fact.
