Descent "Projection"

Out Now on Release Records

Descent have been on a roll this year, starting off with the sleeper success that was 'Gravity Drop', in addition to recent single 'Electric Storm'. Now comes 'Projection', the latest release on Release Records, with Mr Main Element, Gwill Morris providing the remix.

The 'Gwill Morris Mix' is a superb melodic techy interpretation that starts in with some pulsating stabs which send shockwaves through the rhythm percussion that builds up nicely. Subtle hi hats and pads effect the ethnic vocal, with a warm tech house style groove busily working away behind it all. As the vocal moves up and down, it allows some excellent sound layers to shine through, with a subtle twist at the end wrapping up a subtle yet driving speaker tweaking mix.

As you might expect, the 'Original Mix' is yet another big room workout from Descent, which although sticks to their tried and tested formula, manages to be different enough to have it's own appeal. Slightly more chunky than their usual output, the track is held together by some drifting percussion and floaty pads, warm melodies running down into the groove as big ethnic hook rises over the top. It's questionable as to whether that was needed, as the track has a strong enough groove to be a solid progressive house track, but the added vocal and melody add a touch of twisted darkness if nothing else.

Not one of Descent's best, but this is compensated for by Gwill Morris and his excellent remix, proving how much of a forward thinking producer he is, bearing mind how long ago this mix was created and how it still manages to sound fresh even today.
