Weekend World "Milkweed / Sundown"

Producer and label owner Martin Cartledge gives us anther taste of his Weekend World music. Full on progressive drums with a groovy touch really drive this record. Milkweed is a club stormer, which could be caned by anyone for its easy-to-use flavor, while Sundown is on a different edge, with quirky tones to satisfy silly ears.

Milkweed starts out with awesome percussion. It's all there, high hats, fills, punchy kicks, toms and quick claps. The song is a mish mash of huge stabs of thick snyth. The synth lays down the foundation for what is going to happen. A quick break to open it up, and the bass comes in. It's so groovy and housy, it makes you want to move. The song is really full on with sounds all over cascading with each other, and then gradually starts to break, losing sounds as it goes. At the break a laser sound shoots off, and picks it up again. This is a song that really sticks in your head, and could easily be an end of the night Sasha song.

On the flip is Sundown, a weirder more minimal tune. The drums are tribal, yet hard, with clicks and clacks replaced for high hats, that open and close. This song is much housier with a funky bassline, and interspersed sounds. An odd horn sound comes in for a moment above the top. A quick break and we're right back into the silly sounds, with added effects. The mildly distorted sounds fill up the background creating a lot of depth. Into another break, which brings in a vocal sample, and layered mechanical effects. An electro voice rumbles and mumbles underneath it all, while the bass and drums kick in once more.

Martin continues to put out top form music. His sounds are challenging, and very distinct, while also focusing so much on his percussion. The production on this record is amazing, and the feeling is overwhelming.
