Mezz "No Way Out"

Out Now on Sunkissed Records

Simon Noble has been making dance music since the early nineties. He started as an engineer and programmer at Spirit Studios in Manchester. He was one half of the well known progressive house outfit 'Breeder' and nowadays he's working on the "Mezz" project with Sunkissed's Bill Hamel.

Simon and Bill had worked before and their first track, 'Krypto Nights', had much support from Sasha and john Digweed. 'Cubism' was the first outcome from the Mezz project which gained massive support as well. With their previous successes Bill and Simon had set the bar pretty high and would have to produce something even better.

'No Way Out' goes on a full vocal attack. And as with most vocals, it's a case of either 'like it or hate it'. Yours truly is not much of a vocal fan and the vocal mix did little to convince me otherwise. However, the dub mix is more to my liking. Its wiked bass-line and dark synths lead to a trippy break. The percussion work creates a dark and atmospheric mood, and I didn't mind the minimal use of the vocals on it.

Yet another release which Sunkissed hopes will continue their chain of successes in recent months and with remixes from the like of Evolution who provide a fresh lick of paint to the forthcoming remixes of Hamel - Close, 2002 looks like a promising year
