Luzon "Manilla Sunrise"

Out Now on Yoshitoshi Recordings

Luzon is back with another ethereal treat, and with remixes from the outstanding American producer Markus Schultz, we get a deep and dirty gem that will rock many different crowds. Markus’ main mix first showed up on Sasha’s Kiss FM mix way back in August, and is now showing up in boxes all over.

The 'Original Mix' is a tribal thumper. Layers of tribal toms, and drums, as a wave sound comes over, the whole song. Gated vocals come into the mix. A clap starts, and we take off from there. A spacey tone goes on, as the song builds. Farty sounds keep a hold of your attention, as she sings. It’s techy and spacey, but beautiful and surreal.

The 'Luzon Dub' is a dirty affair. Tons of layers of drumming again, with a low bouncy bass, and just hints of tone. A lovely rendition off of the original, just light on the vocals, and much more into the drumming, and bass.

'Markus Schultz's Moscow Mix' is very hard, and pulsing, similar to something like Mario Piu. Very pounding, but bouncy and made for a massive club atmosphere. The bass is bumping, and the sounds are techy and strange. The voice is more apparent, with gated effects, and a ringing tone that creates a simple melody. Similar sounds are used as the main mix, though this song never lets up, and keeps on bouncing all the way till the end. This of course was the mix featured on Deep Dish's Global Underground 021 compilation.

On the other hand his main 'Union Light Mix' starts with deep tones and low bass that bounce, rolling into thick textures and techy drums. A nice wash pad comes in, as a throaty swallowing sound engulfs you. Cute high twinkles, a lovely melody, and the voice rush in, effected, stretched, and treated. A 303-ish tone bounces up and down and into the break. A very heavy bass comes in, pulsing as the vocals are slowed. The bass comes in again, and starts off in a different tone. The vocals come in very drawn out, and soothing. Back into the song with some new laser sounds, as it all comes to a halt.

Markus Schultz is on fire. With many upcoming remixes, and some amazing collaborations, we’ll see much more of Markus this year. Luzon is always incredible. Ethereal treats, and heady beats, make up the finer things in dance music today.
