Hamel Swain & Snell "Future"

Out Now on Sunkissed Records

Next up for the Sunkissed camp is a wicked tune that's been devastating floors all over. First showing up on Chris Fortier's Bedrock 3 disc, and now moving into lucky dj boxes, this is a tune you must find. Both sides show different sides of them, as one is very full on and the other is a laid back sort of groover. Both big on depth and sounds, which makes this a nice little package.

We start out with some nice tribal drums, which work into a thick textured layer of sounds. A snarling sound comes out of nowhere, and holds you there, while you prepare to drop into a huge bassline. The drums keep the movement, while added layers of tech sounds and high hats come in and out. Soon comes a crazy guitar lick, which screeches across you. An eerie synth starts to creep in, while you hear a bit of a warning. The warning is the halt of the song, which drops off into a land of nothing. There you move and twist into melting pot of sounds, only to come crashing back down into the bass and drums. Wicked tune.

On the flip we get a mellower version. There's more focus on the claps, and high hats, than before. The bassline is funkier with a bouncy feel. The soothing, airy synth washes over you, and sounds flutter above you to fill up space. The whole song moves along, until a quick drop, and then it all comes to a quiet still. A small creepy synth moves through the drums, while the bassline changes up a bit. All the drums fade off to be introduced again, this time with more sounds, cascading all around you.

An amazing record to come from Hamel, Swain and Snell, which seems to incorporate their styles alone, and together. A twisted gem with percussion galore, and two great tunes to choose from.
