G-Pal Presents GHOS "Beneath The Surface EP"

Out Now on Shinichi Recordings

Not needing an introduction, Gpal lays down another sweet deep gem for us. ‘Beneath The Surface’ touches on deep, tech, and tribal sounds, while keeping a nice groovy bassline and soft melodies. This 2x12” comes packed with tribal and piano mixes, and another tasty treat, ‘Moon Rising’, which has a soul mix and an atmospherics mix.

The tribal mix of ‘Beneath The Surface’ starts out with some nice heavy drums. The funky bassline comes in and makes room for the punchy chords. They pull you into a groove that sways back and forth. There’s a slight synth in the air, as we head for the break. The toms and drums still in the mix, slowly wind down into a proper break. There’s some filtered high sounds, that move in the synth, along with the drums. Picking back up, we go back into the groove, and head on out.

The Piano mix makes more out of the chord progression. The drums are filtered low underneath, and there is a bit of distortion. This has a bit more drive, and isn’t as funky sounding as the tribal mix. The piano is light, and comes in after the break, along with a sweeping synth. Claps come in and float with the piano sounds. This has a bit more of a sassy feel to it, and a lot of percussion changes.

‘Moon Rising (Soul Remix)’ has a nice soothing intro. Along with some piano, we open into the drums. They are techier, and simple, with claps, and low toms, and a nice hard kick. A lush synth rolls over the piece, adding lots of layers. The drums are based more on a deep house feel. This is a sexy tune, and has a bit of funk just to top it off.

The Atmospheric remix of ‘Moon Rising’ starts again with the smooth synths. This time the drums a more on a breaky tip, and sort of come in an out of the mix. More and more drums are added, and we go into a sweeping synth. This is another very deep house styled song; lovely groove, and rich textures. Beautiful song.

Gpal does it again with his techy soundscapes, groovy basslines, and tight production. Another outstanding release for Shinichi Recordings.
