Josh Gabriel and Dave Dresden are doing exactly what it takes to stay in the limelight. With prior remixes of Way Out West, New Order, DJ Tiesto and even Jewel, these guys are gaining quite a reputation. Releasing on SAW, “Lament” comes hot off the heals of the hugely successful “Wave 3” produced by the Gabriel half of Gabriel and Dresden. “Lament” easily scores as one of my favorite tracks from 2002.

What is it about this track that places it as one of my top tunes of the year? Well, for starters, “Lament manages” to find a great harmony between soul and space. G&D use a unique fusion of technology with eastern influenced melodies. On top of that, the vocal layering and sample manipulation is spiritual in effect, and the build up and break down is full of emotion. On the flip, The Dub Mix is equally as beautiful in essence and it’s always awesome to have a dub interpretation of an original mix. In the beginning, behind the dubby drums, the melody is ran so subtly and spotty that I am not sure it would be recognizable if I hadn’t just heard the main mix. The electronic swirls and slight vocal usage make this a creeping haunter. What else can I say, both of these mixes are hot.

Next up for Gabriel and Dresden is a remix for Grayarea’s “One For The Road”, which is already a firm favorite of the progressive-Sounds staff and was recently included in Chloe’s 10th volume of the Sounds Bytes series. As of this posting, there is still time to catch that.

SAW are charging towards the front of the pack in the coming months with Steph K’s “Numb”, Echomen’s Perpetual, and Chris Fortier’s immense “Losing Wait” Trainspotters, keep an ear to the tracks for these tracks to be instant top jock staples.
