DJ Drunken Monkey "Gratification"

Out Now on Sunburn Recordings

DJ Drunken Monkey is San Fran based Daniel Lippincott who through working at BPM Records in the city has been influenced by all manner of music, including that of San Fran based label, Sunburn. His template for his material is that melody is of the utmost importance and it's that vibe he attempts to pull off on this single of his, 'Gratification'

Hawke opens the account by delivering his 'Blue Resurrection Mix', dropping in some nice rolling percussion over the ambient backdrop, as the vocal whistfully seeps through and the energy of the track increases, dropping down to melancholic guitar solo, strings hypnotically finding their way to the surface admidst a sleepy progressive groove. Nice stuff once again from Hawke, following on from his mix of Lovesky's 'Come Back To Me'.

The 'Instant Gratification Mix' is something you'd expect to hear at Cafe Del Mar, soft plucking guitar strings over a minimal percussion line as warbling vox just run in and out of the groove intricately, mirroing the direction of the bassline in almost parallel fashion. As some lush deep grooves drop in it just adds to the warmth of the track and whilst this may not be a track that could be played in a club, it certainly has some mysterious appeal to it, and the 'Big Tease Mellow Mix' is more of the same goodness.

Sunburn don't feel the need to make slamming anthems. They just make good music, regardless of genre. As their motto says, this isnt's mre dance music. This is a trip.
