Deep Funk Project Vs Austin Leeds "Subritual"

Out Now on Zero Tolerance

Ivan Gough and Gab Oliver return with another storming release under their Deep Funk Project alias, following on from the releases '2 Heavy/Dirty Logic' and 'Blackwitch/Blackphunk' with this collaboration that came to be when Miami DJ Austin Leeds was on tour in Australia, so the boys decided to enlist his talents and the result is Subritual.

In true Zero Tolerance style, the 'Original Mix' features some brooding atmospheric effects that lead into a hard bassline that subtly works it's way along, evolving, brooding and simmering, as drums sound off in chant like fashion in the background. Industrial sounding synths pulsate in the nexus between the drums and the bassline, fading in and out of prominence, before smoky eastern fx seep through the soundscape, before the bottom end of the track drops out momentarily before changing directly slightly as we head into the break. As the drums return the track really fires off on all cylinders, without raising the pace above the constant 130bpm rhythm. In the heat of the summer, this is a damn sizzler.

The Deep Funk boys themselves rework the track for the alternative mix, delivering a 'Dirty Dub', adding spacey sounds to the mix, and deeper, dubbed out atmospheric effects as the bassline shimmers subtly before kicking in, a consistent kick overshadowing the deep sounds echoing in the background. Industrial synths hammer back and forth as the track gets all twisted and driving before fading into the eastern break which is retained from the Original, before the bassline hammers back in viciously and we really get taken into darker territory. Twisted stuff that can only come from Zero Tolerance.

They say third time's a charm, but in the case of Deep Funk Project, the last three releases have all been gold dust. Zero Tolerance continues to retain it's impeccable track record.
