Tkac & Haverlik "Noel"

Out Now on Baroque Records

Slovak production outfit duo Tkac & Haverlik have already appeared on Baroque twice in the last few months with the singles 'Tyra' and 'Synthia', and have steadily developed their sound and style via remixes of such artists as Royal Kinks and Central Rush on sister label Method Records. Returning to kick off 2005 for the label, Tomas & Rasti return with their third single 'Noel', a track that features the guest vocals of Slovakian pop superstar Mischa, and is undoubtedly their most accomplished work yet.

A deep and melancholic mood is predominant on the 'Original Mix', as Mischa's smooth and seductive tones slide through the razor sharp percussion, with the track underpinned by dreamy melodies and a punchy synth lead that whilst somewhat overshadowed by some of the other elements, still manages to carry things forward and make it accessible enough to find some support, although it's old school progressive influences may put some off.

'Innate' provides the remix on the flip, and injects a new lease of life into the track, drawing out the main elements and sliding a tougher, techy bassline underneath to get the energy level rising. The vocal is used creatively, leading to a big drop that sounds absolutely massive as the melodies filter through and the bass kicks into overdrive.

Tkac & Haverlik's production is improving, and 'Noel' is perhaps their most polished yet, if a little formulaic in it's ideas. However, it's by no means a bad track, but if you're looking for something with a bit more punch, head straight for Innate's stellar mix on the flip.
