Subsky "Albino (Remixes)"

Out Now on Nascent Recordings

Nascent's 10th release just happens to be the label's first double 12" release, so in addition to the original 12" of Subsky's 'Albino', come this disc of remixes from hot new Canadian duo Benz & MD, who's remix has received major support from John Digweed especially, and some European flavour courtesy of U4EA Fm's Bjorn Huyghe from Belgium under his MFM guise.

'Benz & MD' rework the track in their own style, with their typical melodic flair added in as a contrast to the melodic layers of the original. Twinkling snares, a deep groove, and sweeping soundscapes beef up the original's elements, turning it into something for the big room peak time sets. An epic breakdown dictates a change in path for this melodic journey, as a smooth outro seals the deal and keeps the energy flowing at just the right level to keep the crowd captivated. Another excellent piece of work from Greg Benz and Marco Di Carlo.

The 'MFM Dont Stop Mix' is probably my least favourite of the mixes. That's not to say it's a bad mix because it's a fairly decent progressive house cut with it's funky groove and deep techy sounds, but the darker vibe here narrows it's appeal, and the bouncing bassline doesn't quite fit in with the rest of the sounds here, and when put up against the other superb mixes of the track, it's short fallings become apparent.

A contrasting set of mixes that reach to different sides of the progressive sound. MFM take it deeper, whilst Benz & MD lift it up into the heavens with their epic melodic opus, and it's their mix that shines here, well deserving of a chance to find a home in your record box.
