Stel & Good Newz "Cave In"

Out Now on Swift Records

After appearances on Audiotherapy and Baroque, Stel & Good Newz have somewhat of a homecoming as their latest release 'Cave In' finds them appear on Greek label Swift Records. These two producers have been friends with G-Pal for quite some time and have stood out amongst the current influx of talent emerging out of Greece, with the single 'Particle' in particular receiving huge support, so how does this compare to their previous work?

Well, the' 'Original Mix' is somewhat of a departure from previous collaborations by these newcomers, and whilst the deep melodies and intricate pads are present, they are overshadowed by the big throbbing bassline that pulsates at the heart of this track. A real speaker tester that keeps the energy channeling at a constant pace before letting it loose amidst the layers of pads that accumulate as the drop hits, this is another cohesive, well produced track from Stel & Good Newz, but they are capable of better as we already know.

'Tone Depth' strips the track down to it's main hook and constructs a smooth and subtle soundscape around it which becomes the canvas for his own interpretation. Focusing on the floating beats and dubbed out bass that are typical elements of much of his work, his mix is excellent for those late night sets that him and his occasional collaborator Sultan are renowned for, and as a contrast to the more uptempo original completes this package in the best way possible.

Both mixes are of the usual quality you would expect from this John Digweed supported label, but on this occasion Stel & Good Newz fall slightly short of the standard they have set with their prior work, making this one for dedicated fans only.
