Speedcats Feat Owen Jarvis "Speedcats"

Out Now on Silver Planet Recordings

'Speedcats' is one of those singles that comes along once in a while and totally disperses whatever preconceived expectations you had before listening to it. Indeed, it's safe to say that 'Speedcats' is quite unlike anything else you might associate with the Silver Planet label to date. Both of these statements may be rather bold, but this collaborative effort between Philly boys Ben Camp, Mat Leutwyler and guitarist Owen Jarvis is more than worthy of them.

Building on an underlying bed of live percussion and hooky bass, the Speedcats boys manage to create a track that transcends the usual house foundations. The driving tempo keeps it in line with the dancefloor, but the atmospheric moods and guitar lead inject an emotional tangent that draws parallels to some of rock and indie's greats, with the result being one of the most original tracks to have emerged in the last few months.

Holland's 'Roel H' provides his own reinterpretation on the flipside, maintaining the peak moments of the original, but dropping a throbbing electro bassline into the background. Warping and distorting that guitar lead to infinity and beyond, Roel succeeds into turning the track into a low slung slab of pure filth, the reactions to which have already been immense.

A very impressive "debut" from the Speedcats, and with the wide and varied accolades this single has already so deservedly obtained, one can only only hope that any potential follow-up reaches the same heights.
