Solar Stone "Rain Stars Eternal"

Out Now on Solaris Recordings

If you’re familiar with the trance genre Solarstone really need no introduction. If you're not they are a highly regarded UK production duo who have been responsible for some pretty big tracks and remixes in their time. ‘Seven Cities’ their biggest hit, has gained something of legend status in trance circles, a feat not achieved by many in their careers.

“Rain Stars Eternal” is the title track off the duo’s forthcoming twelve track debut album which promises an eclectic mixture of styles taking in deep house, electro and ambient alongside their recognised trance sound.

Things get off to a very solid start with a nice almost tribal percussive loop, a vocal sample, silky pad washes and a filtered acid riff creating a nice groove. Around three and a half minutes into the track the main riff is introduced. In trance the main riff either makes or breaks a track. This one introduces a happy, hands in the air feel and remains present from here until the tracks conclusion. You inevitably are going to find yourself either loving or hating it. Personally I found it just a little too cheesy for my tastes. Clocking in at eleven minutes arrangement wise, I also found the track a little too long and repetitive.

Agnelli & Nelson are also something of trance veterans. They use their experience well here sliming the track down to a more manageable nine minutes and toughening it up. There’s no escaping that riff in their mix either but they manage to make it less prominent with a clever combination of sounds providing a good blend of elements around it. Their mix on the whole proving the best of the two on offer here.

Production on this track is impeccable like the majority of the trance genre and really can’t be faulted. However you won’t find another ‘Seven Cities’ here with this release, as overall, I think there's just not enough on offer here to make the track truly memorable and have you revisiting it time and again. It is the sort of track you will give heavy rotation for a couple of months so it’s definitely a case of play and enjoy for today.
