Sharpside "Belgian Resistance (2004 Remixes)"

Out Now on Renaissance Recordings

Kid Creme (Nicolas Scaravilli) and DJ Psychogene (David Garcia) have both been instrumental in pushing the music scene forward, not only in Belgium but across the world over the last decade or so. Individually they worked for respected labels such as Subliminal and Positiva, in addition to holding down residencies or organizing events around Belgium respectively. Their production work as techno act Sharpside has earned them a name around the world, with their releases on the seminal label Records Deluxe becoming highly sought after, gaining such fans as Underworld, whom they later got the chance to remix. Without a doubt one of the biggest releases on the label was 'Belgian Resistance', and here in 2004 it gets a pair of forward thinking re rubs from 'The Idiots' and 'The 21st Century Planet Smashers' on a label that knows all about history and nostalgia over the past decade, none other than Renaissance.

The trio of Desyn Masiello, Omid 16B & Leon Roberts are fast becoming one of the most versatile production outfits, and this 'Idiots' interpretation of 'Belgian Resistance' is an genre defying epic that we've come to expect from each and every track they put their hands to. The original elements are all intact, but a monstrous bassline acts as the heart and soul of this superb twisted tech fest. Edits galore, big acidic fills and subtle drops that change the intensify on the fly all help to create this infectious and highly addictive mix that rocks the dancefloor like only The Idiots can.

Renaissance looks to its roots as those Nottingham based '21st Century Planet Smashers' deliver a ballsy electro rework that kicks like a mule from the early opening. Big riffs and rattling percussion builds up the intensity, with a vocal hook that proclaims "resistance is futile", and as the full on riffs ricochet into each other as the beats grind through from below, you will find yourself in agreement. A solid mix that whilst not on the same par as the terrific Idiots rub, is a filthy little number indeed.

Renaissance have made sure this classic doesn't remain overlooked like so many others out there, with The Idiots providing another star turn that puts them right up there with the best, and is enough reason to check this out without delay.
