Saltlick "Close To The Horizon"

Out Now on White Label

Saltlick is an aspiring producer by the name of Gary Wheeler. Little is known of his background, but he's off to a great start with production. On this one sided promo, he lays down some lush sounding, trippy house music. Close To The Horizon has been described as a 'very classy northern exposure style deep progressive beauty' and that is definitely what you hear.

The track starts out with some quirky bops, and nice swishy sounds in the background. The drums ease in, a nice kick, a mellow clap, and some very faint high hats. An arpeggiated sound comes in over the top, as the bass drops in. It's a rush. A very pulling sound, as effects move all around you. More swirling sounds fill up the atmosphere, and create a very thick texture. A screaming guitar type sound comes in over the top, as the song halts for a moment before bouncing into the drums again. There's water drop sounds falling into the mix, and a nice piano comes in. Just adding layers and little drop tones, the piano makes the song sound full, and lovely. At a short break we head into some backwards beats, and a very pretty breakdown. All the sounds mesh together, and sound great. The piano and drums come back, and the piano takes us out to the end.

This is part of a contest held by Lynx in conjunction with Plastic Fantastic. It's enabling young artists the chance to receive a spot on an upcoming compilation called 'White Label Euphoria'. Gary Wheeler has a great chance, and this is definitely someone to watch out for.
