Rhythm Unlimited "Reflections"

Out Now on Silver Planet Recordings

Rhythm Unlimited, the alias of Notting Hill based producer Dave Taylor appeared previously on Silver Planet with the track 'Feel This', which was reworked in fine fashion by Ali 'Perc' Wells. Now he returns with the somewhat peculiar follow up, 'Refections' and this time the remix duties have been handed to The Flash Brothers who have recently signed to the label for a multi single deal. The results are rather mixed, as you will discover.

The 'Flash Brothers' rework Reflections on the a-side, lending their own dark and eerie trance vibe to the mix. Tribal style drums and a pulsating bassline play host to a sinister melodic groove, as the brothers are so good at doing. The vocal about 'a friend losing his mind' adds depth, looping out into a dreamy melody line that shimmers within the centre of the soundscape. Back into the beats once more, and it builds once more, expect this time tight layered electronic stabs are added into the eqation, adding intensity and emotion at the same time. The Flash Brothers once again deliver a superb dancefloor bomb.

The 'Original Mix' on the other hand is constructed around a rather quirky and loose bassline which hurtles along gathering momentum like a locomotive. The vocal drops roughly over the top as machine gun-esque stabs interrupt each vocal hook. There isn't very much more to the track than that, and it just goes to show how much the Flash Brothers have done to it.

A somewhat odd coupling of mixes here, but the Flash Brothers lift it out of the pit and deliver a star turn which beckons for you to check this out next time you see a copy at the record store.
