Patrick Turner & Jay Tripwire "Altered States EP"

Out Now on Movim Recordings

Patrick Turner and Ben Camp’s new Baltimore based Movim Recordings is about to release its first release entitled “Altered States” in February of 2003. “Altered States” was given birth by two highly successful tribal producers, Jay Tripwire and label owner Patrick Turner in their first ever collaboration resulting in some of the best work I have heard out of these two artists.

“Altered States” is thick with tribal percussion but remains minimal in nature. It is set to release alongside the launch of the label and comes in two flavors on the 12”. The “Music For Fruits” mix is already being championed around the world due to it’s sexy, dubby bass line and live percussion. Vocal elements give it a dark, mysterious vibe but sit subtly enough within the ambience allowing the dancefloor to trance out to the rhythms. There is a small ounce of light brought to this mix with very sparse sprinklings of bright melodic synth .

The Common Loon mix which was featured on Chloe’s Sound Bytes is much darker than the “Fruit” mix. It hits harder on the tribal tech drum and the bass line is deep and growling. If you happen to catch this one on the dancefloor, prepare yourself for a hot, twisted breakdown.

I am anticipating a lot of great things from Patrick Turner and Ben Camp’s label Movim. Releases are already scheduled with Phillip Charles (of Shaboom/Bedrock/Tigerhook fame) which features collaborations with Sean Cusick and Randall Jones. Keep an eye on this Movim target and expect to hear only the freshest druggy, dubby, and twisted tech house grooves.
