Omid 16B "Psco / You Are Me"

Out Now on Sexonwax Recordings

Whilst it's been a few years since Omid 16B wowed us with the release of his brilliant second album 'How To Live 100 Years' on the recently resurrected Hooj Choons label, Omid's skills haven't faltered in the slightest. In the time that has past since, he's been contributing to such projects as The Idiots and S.O.S, with a third solo artist album looming on the horizon early in 2007. For those who cannot wait until then though, those thoughtful people at Sex On Wax present this excellent AA single, featuring the tracks 'Psco' and 'You Are Me'.

'Psco' picks right up where '100 Years' left off, a subliminal late night track that passes a nod to several old school electronic influences. No one creates an atmosphere within a track quite like Omid 16B and with the use of hypnotic keys, deep melodies and 80s synths, this enigmatic take on the breakbeat style is nothing short of spectacular, Think of some of the classic Moroder works or early Tangerine Dream, but with a modern and innovative twist. Sheer brilliance - and a welcome reminder of Omid's seemingly endless talent as a producer.

'You Are Me' will also please long standing 16B fans, it's sweeping drum arrangements and percussive layers providing the canvas for a bed of infections piano keys and funky synths. It's airey analogue sound is a sound you don't often hear in today's tracks, with only Francois DuBois' excellent 'I Try' also breaking the mould recently. It's when you hear tracks like these you remember just how good some of the classics were. The saying "they don't make them like they used to" may seem apt, but in Omid 16B's case, he's still going strong, and 'You Are Me' can stand proud side by side with any other track in extensive his back catalogue.

Sex On Wax really couldn't have chosen a better way to hallmark their 20th release. The master returns to the fold, and with a new 4-track EP and the aforementioned third album to come just after the start of the new year, 2007 just seemingly can't come quick enough.
