OMB is the alias of Japanese producer and dj Daisuke Yamagishi, who has been djing and producing in and around Tokyo for the past decade, slowly getting bitten by the progressive house bug, and developing his own series of productions and remixes, culminating in an artist album on Tokyo's Anoyo imprint in 2002. He has also focused on the dancefloor more so, with material forthcoming on Womb and Acute, and he is also the latest artist to be signed to 3Beat Records, where he brings this nice little two tracker..

'Beeperhorn' is a throwback to the days of big room house records, it's hectic soundscape and driving percussion being far above most records of the moment. Heavy bass, rising chords and futuristic synth effects all work in tandem whilst a chunky, hypnotic groove sits right at the heart of the track. The sliding synth effect and bobbing percussion add a feeling of tension, and this is one track that will sound just perfect in a dark cavernous room at 3am.

'Whiteroom' sticks to the same driving template, but opts for a slightly more tech-edged route where the focus is firmly on devious drum groove. Let the drums speak? This track does in huge volume, making this another great early morning number to dig out of the record box.

Quite frankly, this is one of the best records to have been released on 3Beat in a long while. No added cheese or vocals, just pure having it big room progressive for the moments when your mind feels detached from your body. Imagine some of Satoshi Tomiie's earlier work as a comparison and you'll have a good idea what this is all about.
