Luke Dzierzek "Echo / Timeless"

Out Now on Silver Planet Recordings

Young gunner Luke Dzierzek's debut release on Silver Planet titled "One Day / Echo" surpassed most people's expectations, myself included. With some hot remixes available to purchase from various download sites, he's slowly crafting his own sound and getting a lot of well deserved exposure. This release here provides us with a remix of Echo from Sweden's John Dahlbäck, whose works have constantly pushed the boundaries. The flipside is another original track from Dzierzek, which was previously only available as a digital download.

John Dahlbäck may only be 21, but he's got a plethora of releases under his belt and runs three strong and exciting labels: Jackmoves, Pickadoll, and Dahlbäck Recordings. "Echo" was easily the superior of the two tracks presented on the original release. Because of its quality, I was very interested to see what Dahlbäck would do with it. The remix stays very faithful to the original mix. The foundations are very similar, but Dahlbäck hacks into a lot of the samples, slicing and re-sampling where he sees fit. The percussion is given a slight make-over, and whilst it may not push the same emotion and intensity of the original, it provides an interesting alternative to the original.

"Timeless" has the club in mind right from the onset, with chugging percussion and some thick and juicy lead synths. Some subtle texture resides in the higher ranges, and gives what is otherwise a very simplistic track a bit more atmosphere. This is the kind of track which seems to be working these days, where an electro feel seems to be sought in everything. However I found it to lack the depth of his previous release, and felt that it blended in too much with a string of similar tracks being released at the moment.

Dahlbäck's remix is definitely worth checking out if you were a fan of the original, as it pays excellent homage to it whilst giving it a different spin. As for "Timeless", it is more up to personal taste. It doesn't work for me, but I've heard others speak of it in high regard, as mention that it works well in a club environment. Certainly worth checking out, even if just out of curiosity more than anything.
