Leger & Lake "Mistakes EP"

Out Now on Rising Music

The fifth release on Chris Lake's imprint Rising features two new songs from the head honcho himself, in collaboration with Sebastien Leger. Their unison for 'The Mistakes EP' has created a unique style and sound that very much intermixes what they do, both solo and together. Aqualight and Striped Flower are both bubbly dancefloor tunes with enough transitions and grooves to get people moving.

'Aqualight' is a simple yet infectious tune with a clappy beat and a lead hook to die for. A cool beat stomps in galloping along to a electro bounce bottom end. The lead keys bounce around giving the song its shuffling feel, while cleaver twists and turns of knobs create slight changes in the sound. Another arpeggiated synth rides along top creating a cool harmony and a swankier groove. Tiny key twinkles highlight the background, before the beats drop out and the lead falls into a break. More knob trickery here, as the lead becomes long and big before bouncing back into the bounce. A perfect way to end the night.

'Striped Flower' has a similar set of drums but has a dirtier bassline and a heavier sound overall. A solid kick creates the backbone to a clappy chuggy beat, while the bass roars in funking things up. Its rubbery electro funk sound bounces along while tiny notes twinkle up top. Long dramatic synths complete the package as it all takes on an uplifting but melancholic sound. The bass finds its way through filters as it changes to a more zapping sound at a short break before stomping back into the beats and into a dirty groove.

The next couple of months are busy for these two as Sebastien is in the process of starting his own label Mistakes Music, and has recently remixed the legendary 'Hale Bopp' by Der Dritte Raum, whilst Chris has just remixed Robbie Williams and continues his solo work. They're also back in the studio together, so The Mistakes Ep is just a preview of what is to come from these two it seems.
