Koma & Bones "Red Hot Pussy Liquor"

Out Now on Burrito Records

If there has been one constant in the past six years in the breaks scene, its that Koma & Bones can deliver. From the start in 2000, they have played a stimulating role in keeping breaks techy and floor filling. For those of you following that TCR sound you have nothing to fear with this release or any of the tracks appearing on their new label Burrito, these guys are keeping their breaks style alive and kicking.

The 'Original Mix' of 'Red Hot Pussy Liquor' kicks off in the form of some tightly wound percussion patterns completed with some gnarly distorted riffs. Not before long the boys drop in a sample (lifted off of a Rob Zombie movie) giving the track a classic party vibe. As usual Koma & Bones keep the groove solid and pounding straight through until we boil down to the break. Some nice cymbal rides and a little flange pull us out of the break and drop us back into the madness.

The star of this release resides on the flip side where Nubreed take control. They stick to the over all formula that Koma & Bones have crafted but bring a more anthem oriented feel to it with some chunky guitar-ish riffs and pleasant key changes that just add that extra edge that the original was lacking for me. With the track elevating throughout the progression of this mix, Nubreed mirror the production sensibility that they have used to grow their fan base. The original sample gets tweaked out as well as a Airdrawndagger derivative lead bubbles in before the whole thing comes to a rest, begging for you to give it another spin.

From a career stand point, this might not be the next 'Morpheus' but it never deviates from their master plan. With a spotty remix on it's flip, this could easily slip through the cracks, but thanks to Nubreed I'm sure fans of both will easily enjoy throwing this one in their crate.
