John Morgan & Kevin Shiu "Acid Brownies"

Out Now on Powerplant Music

Powerplant's John Morgan and DJ Kevin Shiu, two of Vancouver Canada's big players lay down thier funky trancey electro flavour on their debut release for John's Powerplant Music label. 'Acid Brownies' starts up the first of the year with a bubbly anthem built around acid, electro leads, and a catchy hook. Brothers of the moment Shiloh remix the tune into an almost goa-esque trance sytle with sqelchy leads, but still remains funky with pulsing beats.

'Acid Brownies' is a techy progressive tune that starts up nicely with good drums and an bass wiggle. Zaps come in on top of a very cool electro lead bringing in the main hook of the tune. Vocoded vocals bounce around with the synths and beats, wiggling and burping in a timely manner. A quick break introduces some new background sounds, while the electro lead drops in again riding along the beats till it all winds down.

'Shiloh' twist the brownies into a gnarly but synth laden tune. Thier trademark beats drop in, kicking and generating momentum while good highs carry the sounds into some twisted background gurgling. The wiggly bass moves underneath while the squelching takes over the main hook. It builds and builds with a sweet groove and peaks as it breaks down with just little bits of the hook before it all takes off again driving with the hook. New keys emerge touching down into all the sounds, creating a fantastic happy harmony.

John and Kevin's release for Powerplant Music has received support across the board, with members of Balance Promote, Chris Fortier and many others amongst those who have been giving it praise, and with Shiloh providing a great remix on the flip, this is worth checking out.
