Jacob Todd "Lunedi"

Out Now on Sentient Audio Collective

New York's Jacob Todd is fast developing a strong discography and creating quite a name for himself. The main reason for this is due to the fact that his consistency is quite amazing and his tracks boast a sense of atmosphere and coherence which is vital for success. Lunedi is yet another gem to add to his collection, and comes with an extremely strong set of mixes.

The Original Mix pushes some bouncing percussion and rumbling low end bass stabs. A lush melody floats along the top of this and compliments the mood excellently. Added to these prime elements are many sub-melodies and smaller ranged effects, which may seem insignificant from the outside, but the track would not be the same without them. Another gem from Jacob Todd.

UK's Andrew Kelly provides a powerful interpreataion of the Original Mix. The breaks are intensified this time, and the bassline is re-juiced giving it a much more emotional touch. The melody is cut up and re-arranged. Many new effects and elements are introduced, and the overall feel is in my opinion a lot stronger than the original, as it tends to build on everything which the original gave, giving an overall more complete feel to it.

Prepare to be taken underground with this stunningly dark interpretation from Florida's Joshua Waddell under his Relisys guise. Cutting between both breakbeats and 4/4, the lush pads breathe life into the track, whilst the intricately reworked melody floats around the composition. The dark and throbbing basslines give an eerie feel which works in well with all other elements, ensuring no one direction ever takes hold, and thus saves the mix from ever becoming predictable.

With the two vastly different remixes being the highlights of this release, Sentient Audio Collective have yet another win here. Solid breakbeats all the way through mean that anyone who loves their breaks is well advised to check this release out, as at least one track will be sure to appeal.
