Innashift Feat Anita Kelsey "The Unknown"

Out Now on Vinyl Vice

Vinyl Vice is a new label based in Birmingham, UK. Formed by two long time music lovers, Paul Rudd and Imran Zahroff, the label intends to focus on some of the finest quality underground house, not only from the UK but all over the world. The first release sees two familiar names from the label's own county join force as Innate and Kenny Shifter team up for an exciting new project entitled Innashift. 'The Unknown' is their first collaborative single, and features the vocals of D*Note's Anita Kelsey, whom many will remember for the huge track 'Shed My Skin' from several years back. On paper at least, it looks as it has all the potential of something big..

And from the moment the 'Original Mix' begins, smooth house grooves soon takes control, Anita's evocative and haunting vocals floating over a bed of vibrant percussion that moves freely through the centre. The groove changes as each verse of the vocal unfolds, with a subtle melody hook leading into a drop at the end, setting up the finale and beyond with careful precision.

Innate & Kenny Shifter's 'Dub' sees the main elements of the original twisted and manipulated to fit into this chunky, no nonsense remix. Filtered synths rise up, washing over the driving groove that swaggers across the centre, each layer of sound blending into each other as we shift into the main section of the mix. Big melodic hooks and a trippy lead make an impact, and things suddenly become very messy indeed. For those heads that follow twisted grooves and intoxicating bass, beware, this will sneak up and kick you in the balls..

A tremendous debut for this new label, and with forthcoming releases from artists such as Andy Moor and early support off cdr for many of it's releases coming from Parks and Wilson over the past few months, this will indeed be a label to watch carefully.
