Ictus "The Look"

Out Now on Minimal Records

The latest release from Minimal comes from Ictus, returing after their single from a few months, the AA side 'Nu Thing / Lekie'. This time label boss Kingkade decided that 'The Look' could lend itself to a great remix, so he has reworked it himself, and enlisted his good friend Chris Lake to back him up with another. The results.. will read on and see if they speak for themselves..

The a-side remix comes from 'Chris Lake' who departures from his usual style for the 'Dirty Breaks Mix'. A deep sub bass b-line fuels this monster as it gets underway, tight beats and electronic synths puncturing the groove as subtle key changes effect the flow of the underlying bass, easing off as the warm, sublime vocal takes over during the break, before the bass returns once more, dark and heavy as light sounds twinkle away in the background all the way to the grand finale. Mr Lake surprises with this mix, further proving that he has much to offer the scene yet..

Kingkade's remix on the flip follows on from his 'Fools Gold' track, utilisting another large bassline that drops forward as the percussion engulfs everything, squeezing the vocal through some eerie effects which slide across the groove. Climbing higher and higher, things take a turn into deeper slant after the break, as the grinding bass brings things to a close.

The Kingkade mix is big enough on it's own, but coupled with the massive Chris Lake breaks mix, this release really does go off, as evidenced by the massive support it's already received with everyone from Sasha and Jon Lisle to Steve Gerrard and Hybrid hammering the hell out of it. However, don't believe the hype, go out, buy a copy, and become part of it...
