Greed Feat Lesley "Tea In The Sahara"

Out Now on SOG Chrome

Over the last few years, Tobi Wirz and vocalist Lesley Meguid have given us some outstanding tracks, from the now legendary 'Strange World', through to the collaboration with Blackwatch, 'Gentle Rain'. Having taken some time out to focus on other projects, they now return with their latest offering 'Tea In The Sahara', which is a cover version of The Police track of the same name.

The 'Original Mix' is of the usual pumping style we've come to expect from Greed over the last few years, and here Lesley's smooth vocals ride over a minimal, laid back groove, with some big synth used to build up the mood, and adding some much needed punch to the groove. Cover versions can sometimes go off on a tangent and lose the original idea, but this is a somewhat faithful and respectful homage to original by The Police, and for what it is, is a fair offering, also found on the vinyl in radio edit form.

'Kasey Taylor & Chris Meehan' provide the remix, taking the track to the dancefloor by taking the original and injecting their big atmospheric pads and percussion into the groove. By cutting up the vocal and using edits on the main bassline, they manage to create a free flowing and driving mix that compliments the original, but making the track far more DJ friendly.

Not of the usual standard that we've come to expect from this outfit, and quite possibly not everyone's cup of tea, but for fans of the SOG Chrome label, this will no doubt prove to be another winner.
