Evolved "Matter Of Time"

Out Now on Baroque Records

Mike Mucci is one of the latest exports to come out of the Florida music scene. Hailing from Miami he has previously worked on material as Circuit Boy and as Evolved has had releases on Sondos, with remix work for Yoshitoshi also. 'Matter Of Time' is his latest solo track, which has already received support from the Low End Specialists, who have been big fans of his work since day one, and this track was featured on their recent KissFM mix, and now arrives as the latest release on the Baroque imprint.

Mike's 'Original Mix' is a deep tribal inspired journey through house, but the focus is placed more on the melodic synths and killer vocal hook rather than the percussion. Rising bass stabs emerge from the hypnotic, free moving percussion, slowly building towards the main section of the track where a vocodered vocal drifts over the top. Dropping into an atmospheric break, the tension is not lost, but only added to, and this vocal-led interpretation shows how to be dark without being boring which is so often the case with tribal tracks these days.

The 'Dub' however, strips down the vocal and is built around the originals's infectious groove which is more predominantly highlighted here. The pace is just perfect for those early morning sets, where the mood is changing, night is becoming day, and everyone is caught up in the music. A moody rework that will no doubt find favour with the usual champions of this sound.

A nice single from Baroque, which may not grab you initially, but when it does, you will find it hard to get the vocal riff out of your mind. It's all a matter of time..
