Darko Feat Bnann "When I Return"

Out Now on Sumsonic Recordings

Darko needs no introduction. As one of half of the Sleepfreaks and Darko and Gainer, Mark O Brien has kept his music varied, and his production skills moving along, and it was only a matter of time before he fancied new challenges. Therefore, he proceeded to have a crack at a full vocal house track, enlisting the voice of Bnann, lead vocalist for indie outfit 'The Infadels'. The result is 'When I Return'..

As the smooth analogue beats make their way towards the foreground of the 'Original Mix', the groove starts off with quirky and intriguing sounds fluttering away within, leading into the first taste of the vocal. Warm beats and a sub bassline take over as the vocal finally makes it's appearance, floating in and out of the groove as it expands, building up towards the break and then fading out and back in with more power than before, for the upbeat and emotive finale.

For those with an aversion to vocals. Darko turns in a 'Dub Mix' over on the flip, stripping out the full vocal and using elements sparingly to fill in the gaps of this deep and groovy house mix, which in a lot of way sounds even better the the vocal mix, due to the added production he has implemented into the mix.

Up until now Sumsonic has been an instrumental based label, so this project is brave move for them. Whilst not mindblowing it does show much promise for what is to come, and the forthcoming remixes from Paul Rogers will ensure that it does not leave your attention any time soon.
