DJ Drunken Monkey "Gratification (Disc One)"

Out Now on Hooj Choons

Originally released in 2002 on San Fran's Sunburn label, DJ Drunken Monkey's 'Gratification' is the latest track to be licensed and remixed for released on Hooj. The brainchild of producer Daniel Lippincott, 'Gratification' now gets updated, retaining the original release's 'Instant Gratifciation Mix' and adding a fresh twist to the track with a new mix from London boys 'Precinct'.

Churning it up in groovy, chunky style, 'Precinct' build it up, only to drop it down and shift the groove with use of a bleep-fuelled bouncing bassline, hitting the melodic hooks and vocal stabs about within the groove. Stopping and starting, the melody returns leading a vocal filled outro out of the speakers and onto the floor in jackin fashion. Gratifying and respectful homage to the original.

Meanwhile, as I said previously, the 'Instant Gratifaction Mix' is something you might expect to hear at Cafe Del Mar, with the soft plucking guitar complimenting the minimalistic percussion neatly. Throw in the warbling vox of Freakboysoul running in and out of the groove, following the bassline in almost parallel fashion, dropping to deep warm groovers at the end and this mix oozes headphone listening quality whilst still being useable in a club environment.

So there we are, halfway through and this quirky little package already is a right old bobby dazzler. Whether it's the old or the new, hopefully there will be something here, that pleases you, and if not.. dont fear, cos as the thin stickman says.. it ain't over till it's over.
