Chris Domingo "Darklight"

Out Now on Boz Boz Recordings

Florida transplant Chris Domingo's profile has been on the rise in the past few months. As producer and writer of hit electronic bands such as Chakra Blue, Proffiecy and with his sibling as the Domingo Brothers and Loveclub, Chris earned himself quite a name in the mid 90s, but more recently has been working in the studio with Bill Hamel, as well as producing original material for Bill's Teknology label. This latest release sees him leap over to Quivver's Boz Boz label for a dancefloor stormer known as 'Darklight.

Domingo's own 'Original Mix' builds in slowly with a solid and vibrant groove, soon introducing a hypnotic percussive rhythm which shimmers over the top, backed by a big 303 style bassline. Atmospheric stabs and melodies bubble on the surface as the track moves along at a fairly reclined pace towards the break. It's here where the twist comes in as sounds burst on the surface and laser effects twinkle in the background, with a moodier outro adding an element of surprise to this well produced progressive track.

'Thomas Penton' increases the pressure somewhat on his own version of the track, with a huge energetic bassline dominating, driving forward and unbalancing all the other elements, a big melodic hook cutting a path ahead. Fading down for a brief moment, hi hats run in during the swirling breakdown before the track picks back up where it left off, with the usual Penton production magic oozing out of every pore of the mix.

Unashamed as to what it is, this is one straight up progressive record with attitude which whilst simplistic it it's approach, is a devastating and fun record that will evoke a reaction every time you pull it out of your record box.
