Brisker & Magitman "No Faith"

Out Now on Slikt Music

While bouncing around labels, the Israeli tandem of Igal Magitman and Roman Brisker have been able to create a nice following. Their blend of forceful melody, straight beats and arpeggiator bass, and attention grabbing vocals knocked out a few very successful releases, including 'Feel Me' and 'Eden', and Slikt Records picked up their most recent production, 'No Faith', as its second ever release.

Side A is the original mix. Its ironically angelic pads dance over the running sequencer bassline while the dark evangelical vocals remind us "there's no faith". A delicate and tight percussive kit adds a clean mechanical repetition to the track's campaign of consistent movement and force.

Phatjak's remix on the B-side is run through the mud and set in the alley to dry. The clean air of the original is replaced with a wavering delusion. The sequencer bassline that was so prominent in the original is no more than a murmur here, sounding like you are listening to it with water in your ear. The vocals are removed completed; replaced with robot communication of extra blips and bloops.

Both mixes have a good hook to draw you in but neither excel into the next level. They do both however, live up to what one might expect from Brisker & Magitman and Phatjak based on their previous work. Both of their sounds are still fresh so this release works well, but on future releases exploring new sounds and elements will help them stay on the cutting edge of progressive music.
