Big Country "In A Big Country (Noel Sanger Mix)"

Out Now on RR1000

It was over twenty years ago that Big Country first entered the world of music, back when synth pop and new wave were just starting to take control of the world. However, Big Country aimed to take things in a different direction, and help show that the common man has a place in the world. Noel Sanger is what you would call a traditional man. A family man. He has rode the wave of the fluctuant dance music scene for many years now and has stuck at it through the good and bad times. This is perhaps why Noel chose to remix this song, but whatever the reason, it's time to find out what he's done to bring 'In A Big Country' into the 21st century.

Deep and moody percussion takes us diving in during the intro, leading us slowly into the main bassline and guitar of the track. Through a series of drops we are teased with melody and riffs before the drums build up and up, taking us to an atmospheric break, with nice synth delays slipping into a guitar solo over which the 80s vocal (which no doubt has got it featured on many The Very Best Driving Album In The World volumes) and edging back out with a house groove which brings things to a close.

It may not be as exciting as Infusion's outstanding remix of 'Pagan Poetry' but the appeal of this 12" will no doubt find it's way into the record boxes of those who like to keep things wide and varied and throw in the odd surprise. To some it may be a novelty record, but Noel has turned in a mix that showcases his production prowess in all it's glory. Take a listen and judge for yourself.
