Andrea Oliva "Sombatiki"

Out Now on Viva Music

From picking up his first set of decks at the age of 12, and playing in front of a crowd at age 14, you could easily say that Swiss DJ/Producer Andrea Oliva (aka DJ Andrew) has been involved in the scene from a young age. His latest release 'Sombatiki' comes to us on the VIVA imprint, and without knowing what to expect here, I was pleasantly surprised.

The Original Mix is strong on both percussion and bass. A subtle and reserved melody flows through the mid ranges, and this generates a very moody atmosphere. Whilst the track is very reserved, it has a mysterious charm to it which is hard to pinpoint, but everything really seemed to click into place on this one. It may take a few listens to grow on you, but certainly give this one a chance.

The PlusMinus Mix comes on in similar fashion, however twists up many of the elements and reworks the melody into the higher ranges. The result is equally moody, but with more of an uplifting twist to it this time. It is a great complement to the original, and both mixes go down very nicely.

To say the least I was impressed with this release. The production qualities were great, the tracks had a great sense of depth to them, and whilst not being over the top or pushing any boundaries, the track does what it has to do and does it very well. Viva might just be the next label you want to keep your eye on.
