Alican & Soner "Dualities"

Out Now on Rapid Response Recordings

Rapid Response Recordings wasted no time in catching the ears of some pretty big name DJs with Jaytech's release 'Genesis', which I found to be very solid in most respects. The next outing on the label comes from the Turkish duo of Alican Yuksel and Soner Ince, otherwise known simply as Alican & Soner.

The Original Mix builds itself around a bassline which presides throughout the entire track. Each other element is layered around it, but none are ever strong enough to overpower it. This creates a nice multi-layered effect, but apart from this I didn't find much else to take my fancy. It seemed to go on and on with no particular destination in sight. There may be some of you who will be into this track, but it boasts nothing new, and hence it didn't have quite enough substance to take my fancy.

Kenneth Thomas takes the original, and rather than attempt to take it in a new direction or inject some originality into it, he simply hardens up the percussion and gears the track up for trance fans. A few extra pads and keys have been added in, but the sounds seem to all collide and it becomes a bit too much. The pacing of the whole thing really tired me out, and I couldn't really find much appeal to it at all.

If you're a fan of trance, maybe the Kenneth Thomas mix will do it for you, but then again it's possible that even trance fans might be a bit lost with this one. The original has a slightly more progressive flavour to it, but I'm not exactly too sure who it is geared towards. If you've heard everything out at the moment and are still running dry for tracks then give this one a go, otherwise you might be better off elsewhere...
