Bedrock 10 Feature: Part Six / Alan Fitzpatrick

Posted By: Simon Jones on 6 October

Alan Fitzpatrick is one of the latest talents to emerge from Southampton within the UK, with his releases on his own 8 Sided Dice label finding remarkable support from many of the top DJs, and also radio support from Pete Tong. His remix of Misstress Barbara´s ´K10´ has had many music fans anticipating it´s release since it was featured on John Digweed´s most recent Essential Mix.

Now forthcoming as part of the ´Bedrock 10 : Past, Present And Future´ album, we take time out to speak to Alan in Part Six in our series of features about the remix, his label and various other bits and pieces.

  1. Progressive-Sounds: What was your first experience or association with Bedrock?
Alan Fitzpatrick: My first association with Bedrock records was picking up a copy of Heaven Scent back in 1999, still a classic in my eyes and since then I have always been a fan.
  2. Progressive-Sounds: How would you describe the track or reinterpretation you have presented for the Bedrock 10 album project and how do you feel it compares to the original version of the track? What other tracks from the label would you revisit if given the chance?
Alan Fitzpatrick: I think my remix of K10 is pretty heavy duty peak time stuff. I wanted to give it a very techy feel while keeping the main hook in there. I really liked the original track and I was 100% happy with the way the remix came out. It goes off every time I play it and I hope it will do the original justice. If given the chance to remix another Bedrock track, I think it would have to be "Pushin Too Hard" by Saints and Sinners. It´s another of my favourite tracks and I love the groove on it.
  3. Progressive-Sounds: How did you feel when contacted to be asked to contribute to the 10th anniversary project?
Alan Fitzpatrick: When I was contacted about doing a remix for the Bedrock 10 project, I was chuffed to bits. Being a techno artist I felt really privileged to be associated with the label and even more so to be remixing Misstress Barbara. It´s more of the strongest labels in dance music so of course it´s great to be involved with a label like Bedrock.
  4. Progressive-Sounds: What are your thoughts on the new venue Matter where the 10th Anniversary party is being held, and what do you feel a state of the art live music venue such as this brings to the global club scene?
Alan Fitzpatrick: I think Matter is a superb club, the sound system is one of the best in the world and the layout of the club is unique. It is a great place for Bedrock and a really great futuristic venue. I think it´s a testament to clubland when we see venues like this being launched. It shows the strength of the scene right now and it´s the biggest way of investing in its future. Matter is a club I certainly cannot wait to get the chance to play.
  5. Progressive-Sounds: What other projects have are you currently involved with and what are your plans for the coming months?
Alan Fitzpatrick: I am currently working on some new original tracks for my label 8 Sided Dice and also a collaboration EP including tracks with Fergie and Dave Robertson. In addition, I have a remix coming out soon of a Fergie track on his Excentric label and I am doing another Bedrock remix of a John Digweed and Nick Muir track called ´Aquatonic´, plus a few more original tracks and remixes on labels such as Steve Angello´s Size Records, Dubfire´s SCI&TEC and Rebirth Records.
