Parks & Wilson "Painting On Silence"Out Now on Bliss ProductionsBliss Productions present yet another mix album, this time with renowned DJ outfit, 2/3 of Tilt and Odessi, Parks and Wilson at the helm. Having had residencies at Home in London, and gigs at Turnmills, Basing the album on the experience gained from these sets, and also incorporating a lot of the musical influences from the Baroque and Method labels, Parks and Wilson lay down some superb tracks. CD1 opens with a strange intro before introducing us to Jas, a producer who´s track ´Belly´ is finding acclaim with the likes of John Creamer, John Digweed and many others. Parks and Wilson layer a new production from young texan producer Jade over this, entitled ´Man On The Moon´ subtly sliding into the mandolin driven atmospheric and dark Bruce Lee remix of Jade´s A Day In The Life Of An Eastern Assassin. One of Andy Moor´s co-productions is up next, Byte, before Satoshi Tomiie´s superb Atari takes us on a jaded journey via Steve Porter´s mix of Fusion - Resistance into Innate´s long awaited follow up to Changes, the dark percussion driven progressive monster, Roots Rock. Andy Moor re-appears under the alias SWORN which houses his darker productions, Dark Amendments is just as the title says... a dark and sinister production that twists and turns amidst a range of sweeping effects and stabs, whilst the Sumsonic boys known as Sleepfreaks deliver the massive Chemical Shift, re-assembled and re-arranged by those Killahurtz boys to great effect to bring disc one to an end. Ambience draws us into CD2, its Origin Unknown, but what we do know is that its the latest superb production from those ever capable Evolution boys, John and Barry that takes off into influences from Down Under with a double whammy of tracks from the land of Oz, the superb Dark Alley mix of Nu Breed´s Food For Thought and onwards to the ´squelching´ progressive trance of Squelch, by a producer named Vance Musgrove on Kasey Taylor´s Vapour label. Parks and Wilson showcase their production skills next, with the superb new single from Tilt, Headstrong featuring the dulcet vocal tones of Maria Naylor, teasing us with a spacey build up before giving way to a dark and foreboding break that drives through the speakers, fighting against Maria´s sighs. The Killahurtz boys return with Decepticons - Deep Under, a driving percussive slice of peak time progressive trance, leading us in to Sleepfreaks take on the classic West On 27th .. taking the track off into a more drum fuelled anthemic direction compared to the darkness of the original. Breeder make a rare appearance with their final single, Carnival XIII, reminding us how sorely missed their productions are whilst Parks and Wilson take us down memory lane with Junior Vasquez´s timeless remix of Pete Lazonby´s Sacred Cycles before letting Oliver Lieb wrap things up with a double helping of LSG. No hallucinations here.. just tripped out productions and one final head for the finish line. For a first mix album, Parks and Wilson have delivered a mix that showcases some of the finest up and coming tracks from the coming months, as well as slipping in the odd classic, all carefully and precisely mixed into 2 hours plus of essential listening. Bliss has done it again, but the competition is bigger than ever. | Digg, Del.icio.us, Technorati, Blinklist, Furl, reddit Artist: Parks & WilsonTitle: Painting On Silence Label: Bliss Productions By: Simon Jones | 15 November 2001 Tracklist:
