Chris Lake Vs Sia "Drink To Get Drunk"

Out Now on Maelstrom Records

Sia´s Drink To Get Drunk gained much acclaim when it was originally released, mainly due to Sia´s excellent vocal capabilites and a stunning remix from Different Gear. However Maelstrom must have felt that it perhaps wasnt quite the definitive remix and have enlisted up and coming producer Chris Lake, who hails from Scotland in the UK to deliver his own unique interpretation of the track. Having heard his previous cheeky little productions such as the Danny Tenaglia/Timo Maas hybrid ´Elements of Der Scheiber´ and his own remix of Leftfield´s massive Guinness advert featured Phat Planet, they must have thought that if anyone could have a shot at the money, it would be this talented youngster.

Chris starts off with a deep percussion based bassline, smokey sax samples trickling over the soundscape on occasion, as we get deeper and the bassline just rolls along at a nice consistent pace before Sia´s vocal enters the equasion, the beat easing off slightly, allowing to appreciate the voice of this talented songstress. Deep synths run back and forth in between each sentence she utters, and as the track heads towards the main chorus, the pace picks up and the track heads into a tough progressive workout that just begs you to get your ass on the floor and dance. A very slick, very well put together track, and very refreshing that someone of such a young age (Chris is only 19) has such a unique style and approach that deserves to be checked out. Of course, for those who just want the deep progressive stormer effect, check out the dub, which is equally as well put together.

A slight change in direction from the usual Maelstrom output, but they obviously knew they were onto a winner, and hats off to them for showcasing such a bright young hope (who we also think is great) and you better make sure you snap up a copy of this as soon as you can cos there are only a limited number available.
