Shlomi Aber "Tokyo Shanghai/Quivery"Forthcoming on Ovum Recordings | 9/4/2008Shlomi Aber hails from Tel Aviv and is a producer whose star is currently in the ascendancy. Named checked by the likes of Pete Tong and Dave Seaman as their producer of 2007, he has a steady stream of releases under his belt for the likes of Cocoon and his own Be As One label, alongside a debut album ‘State Of No One´, released through Renaissance. For this release, Shlomi makes a welcome return to Josh Wink´s legendary Ovum imprint to follow up last year´s ‘Freakside´. As you would have come to expect from Ovum releases, both tracks on offer here belong firmly in the acid genre. Up first is ‘Tokyo Shanghai´ and overall it´s a pretty minimal affair based around a funky drum track and a rolling bassline. The track´s main stand out element is its use of strange percussive delays, which dance around the mix in the background and will leave your head spinning if you here this out. ‘Quivery´ by comparison is tougher and harder. Based around a nice solid kick and a 303 acid line, it´s a pumped affair with plenty of energy, which at times can sound frenetic when the crash cymbals start firing away. The track reminds me of the classic tracks Hardfloor made many years back and for me is definitely the stronger of the two on this release. Overall the blue print for acid house tracks hasn´t changed much over the years since the early Chicago house tracks and the likes of Richie Hawtin with his Plastikman moniker defined the genre. These two tracks both pay faithful homage to the sound and you won´t go wrong with either if acids your sound! | Artist: Shlomi AberTitle: Tokyo Shanghai/Quivery Label: Ovum Recordings By: Andrew Rowland | 23 May 2008 Tracklist:
