Roach Motel "Wild Luv (Superchumbo Roach Clip)"

Junior have enjoyed success for well over the last ten years, spawing artists which include Underworld, Futureshock and more recently King Unique, as well as having association with some of the finest production talent to have graced the music scene over the past decade. Now they have started this new Re-Edit series, where some of the classics from the last decade or so get a fresh update from one of today´s heroes, or an up and coming talent. The first release is Farley and Heller´s Roach Motel classic, ´Wild Luv´, first released back in 1994 and now updated in 2003 by none other than Tom ´Superchumbo´ Stephan.

Tom strips it down, keeping the beats low from the starting blocks, and adding in some warm bassy sounds underneath, building to a time stretched synth which cuts through the groove. Rough stabs cause the groove to bubble as the familar vocal sits atop, drawing you before Tom hits with some deep synths to fuel the twisted outro. The b-side holds the classic ´Original Mix´ which will either remind you that they dont make tracks like this anymore, or will educate you as to Junior´s historic legacy. Either way, it´s well worth a listen.

An interesting concept, which reintroduces some of the classics that have defined the house scene over the years, whilst giving modern talen the chance to pay homage to such tracks. Some people may class this as tarnishing good music, but in this instance I call it a faithful nod to the past.
