Phoebe "Could I See (Remixes)"Out Now on Mo-Do RecordsPhoebe´s ´Could I See´ has been one of the most successful releases for M.A.S. Collective´s Mo-Do imprint, thanks in part to the work of G-Pal. No surprise then, that he is back with remix honours on this remix disc alongside the label´s owners themselves, taking the smooth house grooves of the original, and updating it with the dancefloor in mind
The ´G-Pal Vocal Mix´ is far removed from his twisted dub mix. This is a gorgeous atmospheric house mix that oozes class, deep analogue synths, a breathy vocal and cool use of such effects as stereo panning create a rather futuristic sound. Big keys drift over the hypnotic groove before the vocal takes centre stage for the middle section of the track, leading to an upbeat and emotive finale to another spine chilling masterpiece from one of the most highly regarded house producers of recent times.
A tough act to follow, but if anyone can, it would be the ´M.A.S. Collective´. The label owners bring all their years of experience at both ends of the market to the table here, and turn out a startling remix that fuses a devastating sub-bassline that almost verges on techno with solid house grooves and melodies that are the duo´s trademark. Monica´s vocals drift high up over the top the bottom end drops out to be replaced by smooth breakbeat rhythms that generate ripples through the bassline as this big room opus draws to a close.
This remix disc overshadows the original 12" in many ways, and it´s not often you get two very different but equally as potent mixes that will never fail to get a reaction on the dancefloor, but that´s exactly what we have here. Make a space in your box, and make sure this 12" occupies it. | Artist: PhoebeTitle: Could I See (Remixes) Label: Mo-Do Records By: Simon Jones | 21 January 2004 Tracklist:
