Nic Fanciulli "Yawn"Out Now on Plastic CityIn the past half decade or so, Nic Fanciulli´s ascent to the pinnacle of DJ ´Premiership´ has been little short of rocket fuelled. Rocking virtually every major club in the world, the man is a globally respected talent whose star is becoming brighter day-by-day. Yet, building a reputation as a respected production artist can be an arduous one and a true labour of love. Nic´s early work was perhaps lacking the same cutting edge as his world-class DJ sets, while showing all the signs of a man quickly learning his trade. His dancefloor creations are now on a par with his wizardry behind the turntables and one can listen to "Yawn" with a very keen ear. Some deep rolling beats and an almost inaudible, yet mood setting vox kick off proceedings, quickly establishing the theme for a late night club monster. Things progress with devastating subtlety with shifting drum patterns, detuned piano stabs and relentless, low-slung synth meanderings assaulting the soundscape. It is not until the break that "Yawn" gets a little lighter and more musical, offering a pleasant chord sequence which offers the dancefloor a breather from the twisted introduction. The track is well arranged and continues in this manner, fluttering between light and dark. However, following the hugely promising intro I couldn´t help but feel slightly underwhelmed about where I ended at close of play. Andy Chatterley offers us the flipside. Chatterley has been involved in the scene since the early nineties, amassing a substantial and varied discography along the way. The remix takes on a techier feel and is a little more driving while retaining all the key elements of the original. Perhaps this is the pick for the dancefloor and I felt myself getting increasingly drawn in as the track progressed. A worthy alternative to the cool original indeed. In summary, I felt while nothing groundbreaking had been achieved with this release, it was certainly a decent couple of tracks which would serve purpose amongst many a dancefloor in the coming months. | Digg, Del.icio.us, Technorati, Blinklist, Furl, reddit Artist: Nic FanciulliTitle: Yawn Label: Plastic City By: Darren Rhys | 18 February 2009 Tracklist:
