Cid Inc "The Grill"
Out Now on
Tolerant Recordings
Following on from the inaugural release of Hello Piano (since licensed to Sebastien Leger´s Mistakes Music), Inkfish and David West present the sophomore release on their new label Tolerant Recordings. A solo outing from Cid Inc, one half of the German outfit Mashtronic, ´The Grill´ highlights a more than competent producer in his own right.
The original version of the track is a techy peaktime-influenced track. Built around a subtle arrangement of stabbing beats while underpinned by a high kick that creates the initial energy of the mix. It´s when the lead synth shimmers its way into the equation that the track truly comes to life, building to a piercing climax that is a guaranteed to get both a rapturous reaction and no doubt a few raised eyebrows from those lovable trainspotters.
Inkfish meanwhile take a somewhat left of centre departure from their usual sound with a deep, percussive led rolling interpretation, dropping in some spacious effects and ambient fills to create some depth within the soundscape. Victor Hugo builds on the original´s energy by utilising a driving, filtered bassline and some clever kick and drop arrangements to deliver the definitive peak time version of the track, leaving Lank to round out the package with a twisted, tech house version, where everything is stripped back, and the emphasis placed more on the hypnotic grooves that hold everything together.
Tolerant´s agenda seems to be presenting EP after EP of diverse music and secret DJ weapons for the dancefloors, and thus far, that is exactly what they have achieved with John Digweed already showing his support for the track both on radio show and in his recent sets.
