Bedrock 10 Feature: Part Three / James Talk

Posted By: Simon Jones on 3 October

Hot on the heels of our features with Jim Rivers and Kazell to celebrate the upcoming Bedrock 10th anniversary party and album release, we present the third in a multi-part series of features to celebrate this achievement, with the UKs James Talk dropping by to offer his thoughts on the new venue Matter, to tell us about his upcoming collaborative projects and his contribution to the Bedrock 10 album project.

  1. Progressive-Sounds: What was your first experience or association with Bedrock?
James Talk: Some of the first progressive house records I bought were on Bedrock and have definitely influenced my sound. Saints and Sinners´ "Pushin Too Hard" is one of my favourite records of all time.

  2. Progressive-Sounds: How would you describe the track or reinterpretation you have presented for the Bedrock 10 album project and how do you feel it compares to the original version of the track? What other tracks from the label would you revisit if given the chance?
My remix for the label is a techno influenced progressive track. I wanted to take the original vibe of Save Me and create something epic but at the same time dance floor friendly...
James Talk: My remix for the label is a techno influenced progressive track. I wanted to take the original vibe of Save Me and create something epic but at the same time dance floor friendly utilizing all the gorgeous melodies written by Guy J. I´d love to remix Brancaccio & Aisher "Lovely Day". I think I could do a great re-working of this and bring it into 2008.

  3. Progressive-Sounds: How did you feel when contacted to be asked to contribute to the 10th anniversary project?
James Talk: I was very proud to be asked to contribute to the Bedrock 10 CD. It makes an amazing milestone for the label and it´s great to reflect back over the last 10 years of fantastic music they have released. To be part of such a small selection of artists to be featured is an honour.

  4. Progressive-Sounds: What are your thoughts on the new venue Matter where the 10th Anniversary party is being held, and what do you feel a state of the art live music venue such as this brings to the global club scene?
James Talk: Matter is one of the most exciting things to happen to the City in recent times. The concept of a live music venue coupled with a sophisticated modern nightclub really redefines what the clubbing experience will be. No corner has been cut, no expense spared. I think the venue will attract a good blend of music heads and tourists, and allow people to listen to music how it´s supposed to be heard.

  5. Progressive-Sounds: What other projects have are you currently involved with and what are your plans for the coming months?
James Talk: I have remixes for Renaissance and Azuli due out shortly and I have many more releases lined up for my label Spoken Recordings. I´m also collaborating with Kink, Adam Shaw, Tom Budden and Ridney soon, and working on many singles on my own for various labels. My DJ schedule is as busier than ever with tours of South America and Asia planned for the end of 2008.
